The idea came from one of the projects in Folk Art Needlecraft
by Clare Youngs, but it's not the first time I've embroidered espadrilles:
Folk Art Needlecraft was kind of a disappointment. In the introduction, the author explains she has traveled all over the world studying folk art, and I was hoping that meant we'd get an explanation with each design -- the source, history, and meaning of the image, how she adapted it, and so on. The designs and projects themselves are lovely, though. I'm working on a big project inspired by this book:
