Cruz de Milagros

I've been meaning to make a cross covered with milagros for a number of years.
I started with a plain wooden cross from the craft store and painted it a deep yellow in the recess and purple elsewhere.  I then glued milagros all over, and for good measure added little pink plastic flowers (really teeny hair barrettes broken in half) to the corners.
I hung it with the painted cross and portrait of La Virgen de Guadalupe my mom gave to me.

  1. That's a pretty way to decorate a cross. Do the charms have particular meanings?

    1. The milagros are little votive offerings Latin American Catholics use when praying, to symbolize intentions. E.g., if you are praying for healing of vision problems or to St. Lucy, you might use a milagro in the shape of a pair of eyes. Milagros can also represent the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, a praying figure, and so on.

  2. Looks great, great idea! Did you make the Marian cross as well? I love how the tilma from mom's picture perfectly matches the wall color.

    1. I didn't; mom gave me the cross along with the picture, but it goes well with everything, doesn't it? You'll have to bless the new cross when you come.
